  6. Howdy just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your content seem to be running off the screen in Chrome. I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The design look great though! Hope you get the issue resolved soon. Thanks

  7. Peter Dijkema says:

As in Europe, in the US, the yearly Go Congresses are organised and run by volunteers. They are often amateurs at that. If a local hand or sponsor retires, Congresses will happen at a different place.

Santa Barbara seems a natural back-up:
At the last European Go Congress in Bordeaux France, which was originally planned in Nice, Michael Redmond told me: “This is my first ever Congress here, but I attended all in the US!” … which is why he left us after attending a few days in first week.

The European Go Federation and the American Go Association face similar problems: their top-players are pro´s, top-amateurs are semi-pro´s … but the organisers are beginners almost everytime.

In Europe, I start to look for a structural large long-term sponsor. So, experienced organisers could be financially compensated for their efforts.

I contributed lots of weekly news from Europe for over 3 years to the e-journal of AGA. Financial promises never materialised. Hence I quit.

In Bordeaux, I´d agreed to volunteer, for free lodging and travel expenses. The volunteer job wasn´t possible, by lack of support. So, they needed to pay me for my professional job of reporting. Which they did! However, I´d preferred to volunteer and have time to have fun with friends at that Congress.

  52. Larry Holmgren says:

Mark, I searched the blog postings back to March 2013. I am looking for the Cypress, CA Go club that Bob Terry mentioned.
He does not have the particulars on the day, time and address.
    Do you have that information?

I would like to visit them and post the information on our Meetup.com website.
    Thank you.

    • Larry H says:

The Cerritos-Artesia Go club is closed. I went to the address. another business is there. No info on the people who went there nor their “president”. Gary Choi at the L.A. Go club, last summer 2015, had no info.

  53. Concerned Netizen says:

Why was it necessary to mention the child’s race repeatedly?

  54. mateoxx59 says:

I really like this wonderful site, especially for the older games.

I recommended it many times on KGS but now…

I don’t understand why the moves appeas two times. There are no moves over 100 ! They simply appers twice: 01, 02, etc….

Before there was the possibily to download thegames but now… not even possible to re-write them in another .sgf

    Best regards

    • Mark says:

Thanks for your feedback. The move numbers being displayed are a product of the replay engine that I am using. I’ll look into why the link to the .sgf is no longer there.

  55. Larry H says:

So what was his name, the distinguished looking gentleman with the glasses?

  56. Larry H says:

Mispelled name, third line below the game record. Takagawa. No “l”
Or use (sic) if that is what the overseer said.

  57. Ian says:

The European Go Cultural Center made a series of videos promoting Go, to my knowledge they have had no significant impact.

  58. Ian says:

It seems strange that NHK World would say something so obviously wrong. For instance, Germany has held national championships for well over 50 years.

  59. Andreas Persson says:

Hi, not sure how much you follow the Go players that are on Youtube? Both Dwyrin https://www.youtube.com/user/dwyrin and Nick https://www.youtube.com/user/nicksibicky has a good following and have been around for a while. Dwyrin is also on twitch a couple of times a week, playing doing game reviews and giving lectures. https://www.twitch.tv/battsgo

They are both great, but cater to people already playing Go. Not sure how you would go about creating videos yourself and gaining a lot of views to promote a game that few has heard of. If you could get some big youtube channel with lots of viewers to do a segment on Go that might help spreading the game and getting new players started.

  60. Doug Cable says:

    Good article.

Aside from Go Seigens’ “21st Century” why not write an article about Cho Hunhyun’s book “Life and Master Games.”

In my own case, I re-read it every few years and always find something inspirational in it. Along with Go’s book, I think Cho’s has aspects that put it in a slightly different category than the typical go book.

You’ve probably written, in these pages, about the “Korean go miracle,” but if not, writing about Cho’s book would certainly provide a good link to it.

  61. Stan Pawlowski says:

  65. Larry Holmgren says:
